HOW IT WAS
WHAT DO PEOPLE SAY
Mahitha Dasi
Ayurveda Journey 2025
From the first day on, we practiced the instruction: “Catch your mind, and bring it back to the breathing.” Either Rishika Hiranmayi or Swamini Abhirami guided us through japa and meditation. Rishika Hiranmayi introduced us to Ayurveda’s deeper philosophy: true health is a state of permanent bliss, arising from the realization of our intrinsic nature and the clearing of deep-rooted samskaras (mental impressions). Swamini Abhirami led a powerful ‘mind workshop,’ helping us understand the patterns and beliefs shaped by ego. She taught us how to observe and transform these patterns—offering practical tools to bring mental clarity and inner freedom. It was really amazing and so effective.

All our health problems come from the mind. If we only treat the body, we go back to our lives, and everything goes back to the way it was because we gradually return to our old habits. You will have the opportunity to work on your mind while your body is being supported and brought back to normal. This collaboration… when you slow down… My favorite memory from the clinic is this: Mahashaya Dasi and I were staying in the same room. We went to bed at 9 pm, and outside the window, there was a tropical rainstorm. I never experienced such joy just from listening to the sound of rain. And imagine, in this state of mind, the work on the mind sneaks up on you. It’s subtle, but the realisations you get there are very powerful.

So, here’s something I wanted to share. I am used to putting a lot of effort into achieving something. I feel like I’m only good enough when I put in a lot of effort. It’s a kind of pattern, and it seems like you can’t live any other way. And then the doctors tell you, ‘You’re not allowed to do anything.’ Not just ‘don’t do this or that’, but literally nothing at all. Just rest more, lie down, read. And at some point, I had this realisation that what I’m doing now, what’s happening now — this treatment, this rest — is also seva (service). This is my service to Guruji. This is my service to God. It was such a powerful feeling that what I’m going through right now, this treatment, working on my mind, learning to rest — that is very important not only for me. It was a very profound revelation.
